DC Eyes Community Shared Solar

The DC Council is set to vote tomorrow on a new program that would allow thousands of DC renters, businesses, and others to go solar for the first time.  If you live in the District, click here to help us get the votes we need to help DC solar shine for everyone.

Solar energy is growing like gangbusters all across the U.S. – but the traditional panels-on-your-roof approach simply doesn’t work for renters and many others in DC who don’t own a suitable roof.

Enter the community shared renewables program up for vote tomorrow. For those who are new to this approach: shared renewables allows any energy customer to subscribe to a shared solar project located somewhere else in their community — and get credit on their utility bills for their portion of the clean power produced. That’s going to make solar energy work for more of DC and help the city meet its clean energy goals.  Given the economic and environmental opportunity it’s ready to unleash, the proposal has wide support from both the community and Council members. Here’s hoping they turn that support into action with a resounding YES vote tomorrow!

Our nation’s capital is just one of many jurisdictions considering expanding access to solar through new shared renewables programs. Check progress all across the country at Shared Renewables HQ.
